ReplyDeleteAgreed. He seems to belive it's the federal governments job to create jobs. Funny i don't see anythign about government getting involved in the market anywhere in the constitution.

It's unfortunate that even at a town hall debate candidates continue to ignore the "questions at hand." However, I applaud McCain for his answer when he said that "we can't tell someone they'll have to wait for healthcare." That will resonate

ReplyDeleteI will say McCain does have a point that he has been bipartisan in the past. He's actually passed bipartisan legislation and worked on it, Obama only preaches it.

ReplyDeleteEnough of this talk about drilling...didn't we all agree that drilling, in ANWR at least, will take 10-12years and that company's will, unless properly monitored, have no obligation to sell that oil within the US. This is not a short-term solution, it is a long-term escalating committment
ReplyDeleteListening to them talk about healthcare makes me even more upset that the sCHIP program expansion plan failed. How can someone vote against (like McCain did) and/or veto (like W) a plan to insure those who don't have the ability to fend for themselves. All men are created equal, but we should protect those who can't protect themselves. Once you're of age, it is a different story, but we, as a nationa, should provide for youth and give them the opportunity to achieve/fail.

ReplyDeleteI personally don't agree with the whole trickle-down theory Andrew and Steve seem to be supporting. It appears to me that the lack of government intervention and moderation in the private sector is what has driven our economy to the shambles it is in now. Regardless, I'm enjoying the setup of the town meeting style debate as well as the presence of a competent moderator :D

ReplyDeleteObama makes a great point about mobilizing the international community around fighting genocide, ethnic cleansing etc., but how do we do that given our diminished standing in the world? We need to take the first step alone, and show that we mena business

ReplyDeleteOverall, I think Obama is making a better impression. He's not fumbling around for words and he's speaking in a more booming, forceful voice. He's showing much more confidence, and that is reassuring.
ReplyDeleteIt's great to know that McCain is bipartisan and at least partially fulfills the "Maverick" card he's been playing but it seems to me that he's alluding to it way too often and using it as a replacement for answering questions. I also think Obama's attempts to counter McCain's mudslinging are taking him down the wrong path as well, he was quite off base answering the question on creating green jobs.

ReplyDeleteMcCain has been great on these last two questions regarding Afghanistan and Russia...Make them secure and everything else will fall into line (for the first)...Disucssing the scare tactics of Putin for the second. Obama's call for a new Marshall Plan is not dazzling...will leave people wodnering why we should stimulate their economies when ours is in shambles.

I don't expect my politicians to be infalliable, when they make a gaffee or misspeak, I don't hold them accountable, because I know that I couldn't remember the facts an d figures about every budget ever to pass mt desk...but when someone askes you about somethign you don't know...be honest! I'd rather see that you have the desire to improve than ignoring a chance to admit a fault or a lack of udnerstanding
