Sen Barack Obama has chosen Sen Joe Biden as his VP candidate.

  1. This is probably one of the best choices Obama could have made, much better than Tim Kaine or Evan Bayh. Joe Biden can get out there and be the attack dog Obama needs. He also brings a lot of experience with him though I doubt this will help Obama gain many new voters or convince Hillary supporters to back him. This may be good though because if Obama wins two terms Biden will most likely not run for president leaving the door open for Hillary to throw her name back in the race in 8 years.

  2. Well Smithtown, I'll tell you from up here at Brockport the view is a little different. Students here have been talking about how this could really hurt Senator Obama. Hillary as VP would have, in my personal opinon, been a sure democrat win. The democrat vote was so close to a 50/50 split that adding Hillary to the ballot would have given him all the democratic votes for president! But he's still got my vote and I, of course, hope for the best!

  3. Wow thats so weird because everyone I talked to here in Atlanta, republicans and democrats, thought Biden was an excellent choice for Obama. They fell he will work well with Obama, balance out what Obama is missing and won't be afraid to challenge Obama on policy.

  4. As much I like Hillary (yes, I'll freely admit it!) I don't think she could effectively serve as a vice president. Obama and her have a tepid relationship as it is and Bill would most likely create an uncomfortable presidential triangle, not to mention he has yet to warm up to Obama. I think Hillary would do a great job, but I think the social situation between Hillary and Barack would really bog down day to day operations as a whole. I think if the relationship between Hillary and Barack was better then she would have been much more seriously considered for the vice president position. As lawmakers, Hillary and Barack work well but on a personal level I doubt they will ever get along and that is why Biden is a solid choice. I look forward to 2012 or (hopefully) 2016 when Hillary will presumably run again.

  5. Nice to see everyone keeping up on their politics over the summer!

In terms of the Hillary option, I think any smart adviser would tell Obama to steer wide and clear of Hillary. From the realist point of view, no Hillary supports will vote for McCain simply out of spite. That argument is preposterous. At worst it may limit some voter turnout for Obama.

Another reason to keep Hillary far away from the ticket is her obvious close ties to Bill Clinton...remember....the guy who couldn't keep his mouth shut during the campaign. The guy who screamed at reporters for badgering his wife. The guy who almost lost his job as president because he couldn't keep his pants on throughout the workday. The guy who, despite his charismatic persona, still has as many enemies out there as he does friends.

The short story here is that Hillary is more of a liability than an asset and that her supporters are bluffing when the whine that they won't vote for Obama in the end.
